John’s interest in Law started during his undergraduate course in International Relations at the University of Sussex. An effortless orator with great communication skills, he quickly became involved in a number of societies such as Amnesty International, Lawyers without Borders, and Model United Nations, in which the law is a key component. This spurred him on to complete a Graduate Diploma in Law and a joint Legal Practice Course and Master’s Degree in Law at the University of Law.

His career at Bott and Co began in 2017 when he joined as an Office Assistant, and has progressed through a Legal Assistant role to his current Junior Fee Earner position in less than a year.

Through these roles, he has gained invaluable insight into how a law firm works, and the processes involved in pursuing a successful personal injury claim.

He is passionate about achieving positive results for clients and frequently helps those who have experienced very difficult and upsetting accidents while on holiday.

“The part of the role that I enjoy the most is interacting with clients. A significant part of my role, particularly recently, has involved taking and drafting witness statements from clients. Working in holiday claims, a lot of the subject matter can be deeply personal and unpleasant for clients to speak about, so I pride myself in an approachable and friendly telephone manner to help put clients at ease, make them feel comfortable, and help them express what they want to say in the best way possible. The best feedback I’ve had so far is a client telling me that I was really easy to talk to,” said John.

John will always ask questions to maximise damages for the client, at the end of the day that is often the most important thing to many of our clients.

“I am particularly motivated by helping others. Package holidays are an expensive luxury that not many people can afford regularly, so when clients raise the accident that they have suffered with tour operators and just get ignored or offered inadequate compensation, it can be deeply upsetting for them,” adds John.

When not at work, John enjoys music and has been playing the piano for 20 years. He also has a keen interest in politics, history, and languages.
