Bott and Co Solicitors have negotiated £50,000 in bicycle accident claim compensation for a keen cyclist from Oakham, East Midlands, who suffered a broken wrist and needed surgery following a serious accident in November 2019.
Retiree, William Young, 73, was thrown into the air after being knocked off his bike by a careless driver. He had to have an operation to insert permanent plates and pins into his arm.
The accident left Mr Young unable to cycle for over a year and has affected his day-to-day comfort and mobility. Eight months after the accident, he had to be taken back into hospital and put under anaesthetic to forcibly manipulate his knee as it wouldn’t bend.
“It completely took me out. The impact left me sitting in the central island of the roundabout, not knowing how I’d got there!”
The compensation that Bott and Co’s Road traffic accident claims solicitors was able to get for Mr Young has aided his recovery and helped him get back on his bike sooner than expected.
The Accident
Mr Young was two miles into his usual cycling ride when a vehicle suddenly struck him on his left side out of nowhere.
Describing the incident, he said “It completely took me out. The impact left me sitting in the central island of the roundabout, not knowing how I’d got there!”
Despite wearing a helmet, high visibility jacket and riding with caution, Mr Young was rushed to hospital where he ended up on an operating table with a broken right wrist which needed permanent plates and pins inserted.
Choosing The Right Legal Representation
Whilst recovering in hospital and coming to terms with the long-term implications of his injuries, Mr Young contacted his insurance company to see what the procedure would be to make a claim. They advised he contact a solicitor.
“I knew that the help both money and support could provide would be the key to getting back out there cycling again.
We always set out to get our clients the maximum amount of compensation available to them to ensure that they get the full support and care that they require.
Originally, I went to a local solicitor’s firm to me, but they took too long getting back to me with information. Fed up of waiting, I went online and found Bott and Co. I was impressed with their passion for cycling and understanding of these types of claims.”
Negotiating The Appropriate Settlement
The team at Bott and Co got all the necessary information from Mr Young and began working through the case in detail.
All the staff at Bott and Co are extremely knowledgeable in cycling accident claims and went through everything with a fine toothcomb to get me the compensation and care that was required” said Mr Young.
David Bott, Senior partner of Bott and Co said: “We always set out to get our clients the maximum amount of compensation available to them to ensure that they get the full support and care that they require.
In the more severe and complex cases, such as Mr Young’s, this is all the more important as the level of injuries sustained require more in-depth knowledge and analysis to ensure nothing is missed and the best help is received by the claimant. Each case we work on is handled according to its individual need.
We often go through negotiation with the defendant insurer and like in this case, we won’t settle for less than we believe is warranted.”
Moving Forward Post-Accident
Prior to the accident, Mr Young had been cycling for 20 years and was doing around 200 miles a week.
Cycling is a huge part of my life and the accident affected both my hobbies and social life. I also had to cancel a cycling trip to Spain which I was unable to go on.
“It took me a year to get back onto my bike, and still now I can only do a few miles before my knee seizes up. Although it still hurts, I’m back cycling thanks to the support of Bott and Co.
